For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with cameras. I bought my first camera in the twelfth grade, and not too long after, I began diving into the film world. It wasn’t until last year that I found out about BlackMagic Design, one of the world’s leading media giants. After doing a thorough search on their website and social media, I noticed that they are currently pushing a lot of content honoring art.

From a gear enthusiast’s standpoint, I want to hear more about the actual products they offer. I decided to create ad campaigns for their Instagram and Facebook accounts, centered around acquiring new sales and encouraging more purchases from existing customers.

Ad #1

Target: Existing & New Customers.

Goal: Drive more sales and increase revenue.

My approach for this d was to instantly catch the attention of anyone looking to purchase a new camera for the holidays. For this, I chose to use an image highlighting some of their most popular equipment all assembled into an impressive looking camera setup.

In order to have a successful outcome for an ad, it is important to keep it succinct, which is why I made sure my caption was straight to the point. I also built emotional attachment by centering my marketing around spoiling yourself during the holiday season.

Overall, I believe this is a great way to catch potential and current customers’ attention, resulting in increased revenue.

Ad #2

Target: New customers and curious potential customers.

Goal: Build brand awareness.

My main goal for this ad is to create an overall sense of wonder from potential customers regarding an editing software provided by BlackMagic Design. From a customer’s perspective, I tried to envision what would best capture their attention.

That’s why I went with a more aesthetically-pleasing image featuring what I believe a “dream editing setup” would look like to an editing fanatic. Given that editing is one of the most important aspects of being a filmmaker, I believe BlackMagic Design would benefit from this ad because it will generate more traffic to their website, which increases their revenue.

Ad #3

Target: High Paying Customers.

Goal: Drive business for their Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 12K.

The target audience for this ad is high-paying customers. Ones who put their money to great use no matter how much they spend to receive the highest video quality possible.

I understand that a customer’s attention span is very short and limited, which is why I used a very punchy sentence-style. I aimed to grab their attention by mentioning the camera’s compelling stats and video-capturing capabilities.

Adding a very enticing image also increases the overall appeal of the ad. No ad is truly complete without a clear ‘Call To Action’ button, which is why I made sure to label it “Shop Now.” Doing so gives customers a clear indication of what to do next.

How I created the ads

Creating ads for Instagram can be created inside of Facebook’s ad creator, all thanks to the merging of these two media giants. You will need to create a Facebook page and then a business page to create ads.

After clicking the “+” you will be prompted to this page. This is where you will be able to select the images, write the description for your ad and create a call-to-action button.

It’s imperative to select images that are bold and attention-grabbing. Doing so will ensure that your posts are seen by potential and existing customers more clearly. Don’t forget to shorten your captions and descriptions because the average person’s attention span is less than thirty seconds.

Next you’re going to do is pinpoint the demographic you’re trying to reach. You can do so easily in Facebook’s age and demographic slider as shown below.

My favorite feature in this section is the “Drop Pin” feature because it allows you to target specific states and cities. If you look closely at the bottom of the screenshot above, you’ll notice a “Potential Reach” indicator which shows you the approximate number of people your post will reach.

The next step is to set a budget for your instagram and Facebook ad. This section is fairly simple because the variables will change based on the budget you choose. The more you spend, the more reach you have. You also have an option to choose how many days you want your ad to run for.

Before running your ad, it’s very important to see how it will look and that is when the preview button comes in handy. It allows you to see how your ad will look in an Instagram, Facebook or Messenger format.

I’ve also created a video demonstration revisiting all the tips I’ve mentioned above for those of us who are more visual learners. Please visit the link below to watch it in full.

Summary

The ability to master marketing is an essential skill everyone needs in this social media-driven new world. As mentioned above, the attention span of potential customers is very limited, so making sure that your ad stands out from the rest is very important.

I hope you enjoy my breakdown on how I created marketing ads for BlackMagic Design. Until next time!
